Course Description:
The Thoracolumbar Junction (TLJ) is a key organizing region in the body, acting as a structural bridge between the thorax and pelvis. Within Structural Integration, this area is central to Ida Rolf’s concept of the Line—the vertical organization of the body in gravity that supports ease, efficiency, and coordinated movement. The TLJ is also a critical meeting point of the Anatomy Trains Deep Front Line (DFL), linking the diaphragm, crura, psoas, pelvic floor, and lower limbs into a continuous system of support. When this region is well organized, the DFL can transmit load and information effectively through the center of the body, supporting upright posture, breathing mechanics, and functional gait. When it is restricted or overworked, compensations commonly appear both above and below.
In this two-part webinar, participants will explore the thoracolumbar junction through the lens of Structural Integration, combining contemporary anatomy and movement science with Ida Rolf’s insights into the lumbar hinge and vertical alignment. Through lecture, discussion, and guided exploration, students will learn to recognize common TLJ patterns and apply practical strategies to support improved organization through the Line.
This course is designed for Structural Integration practitioners, bodyworkers, movement professionals, and manual therapists, and builds directly on concepts introduced in the From Core to Contour webinar.
