Course Title: ScarWork: Integrating Scar Tissue into the Fascial Web

Course Date: September 9-12, 2024

Course Instructor: Michelle Baracz, MS, LMT, BCSI

I've been using ScarWork in my private practice for 5 years, since I received my first certificate of completion from Sharon Wheeler, the creator of ScarWork. Sharon Wheeler granted my certificate for teaching ScarWork in February 2022. I’ve been the teacher and assistant teacher of 10 ScarWork classes since then.

Course Start and end times: 9 am to 5pm

In Person location: Frederick, Maryland

Course Description: ScarWork originated in the early 1970s with Sharon Wheeler, who at the time was a young student of Dr. Ida Rolf. Sharon’s training in Structural Integration – particularly from an artistic perspective – is what gave birth to the discovery of working with scar tissue in this unique and effective way. Sharon began teaching ScarWork in 2005, and has since imparted the lineage by qualifying a number of selected teachers from around the world. Sharon’s experience suggests that working with scars is like speaking a different language in the world of connective tissue, and the ScarWork approach is like a gentle, textural art form. With ScarWork’s specialized techniques, tissue quality improves quickly and easily, and contours in the scar smooth out and re-integrate into the body’s three-dimensional fascial web. ScarWork often results in profound functional changes as well as delightful cosmetic improvements. Frequently, the results encompass whole-body integration shifts along with trauma resolution. This curriculum is based on the methodology as Sharon Wheeler taught it, and presents ScarWork’s foundational components in its original format. It introduces the students to Sharon herself directly by way of video and her written manual, and it also honors the Structural Integration lineage. This course aims to provide an inspiring continuing education experience, deliver fresh insights and tools, and open new doors to the future of the students’ business practice. ScarWork can fit seamlessly into a Structural Integration series, bodywork session, or be used as a stand-alone manual therapy. Practical experience with a variety of scars in three separate supervised clinic settings prepares the student to confidently work with scars immediately in their practice. Students will also receive additional resources for ongoing support outside of class.
