There are many varieties of Functional Methods. The most commonly practiced variations are Unwinding and Functional-Indirect. While these two low-force yet powerful treatment methods allow the practitioner to accomplish a great deal, skill in the full scope of functional methods dramatically increases the number of keys on a practitioner's ring to unlock well-being for a wide range of client situations.
I invite you to pick up those keys one at a time in three modules. About 1/3 of the methods in this course are from Jean-Pierre Barral DO, 1/3 are from other osteopathic sources, and Jeffrey Burch developed 1/3. The course teaches 16 distinct assessment methods, organized into a protocol to find the most productive place to work at each moment. Each method provides some information, but not all.
Comparing observations from several methods facilitates finding the most productive place to work at each moment of a treatment session. Some assessment methods will be used in every assessment, and others will be used as situations arise.
The course teaches 24 treatment methods. Once the best entry point has been determined, treatment methods can be selected to make effective changes quickly and comfortably with little effort. Because our clients are unique and complex, each functional method provides another potential avenue to normalize tight or lax tissue in the body. A classification system for treatment methods will be presented, which can lead to the development of new treatment variations.
This is module 1 of 3 for th Functional Methods course series will be held in Eugene, Oregon. FM-1 May 22-26, 2025 FM-2 Aug 21-24, 2025 FM-3 Jan 8-11, 2026
